Privacy Policy
Legendary MP3, operated by Legendarily Imperfect, LLC. Effective and last updated 27 September 2026.
The Short Version
Legendary MP3 plays the music files already on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. The app makes a network request only when you ask it to: to look up an album's tags, to fetch a cover, or to send a play to a scrobbling service you signed in to. We never see your music, your library or your listening.
1. What Stays On Your Phone
Everything the app knows about your music lives in a database on your device and nowhere else:
- Your library: file names, tags, artwork, folder paths.
- What the app measured from the audio: tempo, key, energy, bitrate, and whether a lossless file was really lossless.
- Play counts, skip counts, playlists, saved queues, the ignore list.
- Settings, including the theme and the equalizer.
None of this is uploaded, synced or backed up by us. Android's own device backup may include it, under your Google account and Google's policy, if you have device backup turned on.
2. What Leaves Your Phone, And When
Only when you use the feature, and only what the feature needs.
Tag lookups (MusicBrainz). When you ask Library Health to find fixes, the app sends the artist, album and track names it is trying to match to the MusicBrainz web service, run by the MetaBrainz Foundation, together with a User-Agent naming this app and its version, which MusicBrainz requires. Nothing else: no file names, no play history, no identifier for you. MusicBrainz privacy policy.
Cover art (Cover Art Archive). Fetching a cover sends the MusicBrainz release id being looked up to the Cover Art Archive, run by MetaBrainz and the Internet Archive. Internet Archive privacy policy.
Scrobbling (optional). If you sign in to Last.fm or paste a ListenBrainz token, the app sends the artist, title, album, length and the time you started each track that you play past halfway, plus what is playing now. Last.fm sign-in sends your username and password to Last.fm once, over HTTPS; the app keeps the session key Last.fm returns and never keeps the password. Scrobbling is off until you sign in, and signing out stops it and deletes the credential from the device. Last.fm privacy policy · ListenBrainz privacy policy.
Purchases (RevenueCat, Google Play). The Legendary unlock is a one-time purchase through Google Play. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user id and the Play purchase receipt so the unlock can be restored on a new phone. We never see a card number, and Google Play handles payment and refunds. RevenueCat privacy policy.
Crash reports (Sentry). If the app crashes, a report with the device model, Android version, app version, the stack trace and which screens were open just before is sent to Sentry so the bug can be fixed. Reports carry no file names, tags, play history or anything that identifies you. Sentry privacy policy.
That is the complete list of parties. No advertising networks, no analytics SDKs, no social logins.
3. Permissions, And Why
- Music and audio (
READ_MEDIA_AUDIO): to find and play your files. - Modify your files: only when you choose to write a tag or embed cover art, and Android asks you to confirm each write on Android 11 and later. Before any write, the app keeps a copy of the old tags so the change can be undone.
- Notifications: the playback controls in the notification shade, and progress of long jobs like a library scan.
- Internet: the requests in section 2, nothing else.
- Run in the foreground: so playback and library jobs survive the screen turning off.
No location, no contacts, no camera, no microphone. The visualizers read the audio being played, not the microphone.
4. Children
Legendary MP3 is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
5. Your Rights And Choices
Everything the app holds is on your device, so you already control it: uninstalling the app deletes all of it. Scrobbling can be turned off or signed out in Settings; what was already sent lives in your Last.fm or ListenBrainz account under their terms. For a crash report or a purchase record held by a third party, contact that party or write to us and we will help.
If you are in the EU, UK, California or anywhere with a data-protection law, you have rights of access, correction and deletion. Since we hold nothing about you, there is nothing for us to produce or delete, but write to us if you believe otherwise and we will look.
6. Security
Data stays on your phone under Android's app sandbox. Network requests use HTTPS. The Last.fm session key and ListenBrainz token are stored in the app's private storage.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the new version is posted at the same address. A change that matters will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
